Back to Blue Graphic Novel is the true story of Adam White, an addict who robbed banks to get to prison to get clean. Both he and his story are a work in progress.
Upon his first release from prison (there for drug related crimes) in early 2014, he started a successful interior design and remodeling company while maintaining a drug free lifestyle. His recovery from addiction became jeopardized after a nasty work-related accident left him permanently injured in both wrists. Turning back to drugs, he lost everything he worked so hard to achieve.
After an eight-month bender, Adam decided to resort to a series of bank robberies as a last-ditch effort to use the prison system once again to get clean. Back to Blue picks up his story from there. In addition to finding his path to self-discovery and recovery from addiction and emotional trauma, Adam and his imaginary friend "Goey" (pronounced: Go-EE) discuss important social issues and corruption among the correction officers and prison administrators "trusted servants.”
Using humor, "campy" pop culture references, and embarrassing personal moments, this is a story of redemption, self-discovery, recovery, and finding the real person within that most others forgot existed. Anyone whose life has been touched by addiction, the prison system, or traumatic loss will instantly connect with this book.
Adam is currently incarcerated at Noble Corrections Institution, in Caldwell, Ohio. All artwork and writing were performed without the benefit of modern tools and techniques. All artwork was drawn under a single bulb lamp on a prison bunk bed; using scrap cardboard as a firm surface.
Facing the daily challenges of prison life and the constant mandatory interruptions of production, Adam has persevered through it all holding on to his dream of completing one mans’ story of succeeding against all odds. He is achieving freedom from addiction’s clutches using writing and art as a means of recovery. He is expected to be released from prison in April, 2023.
Back To Blue isn't just for comic lovers. It’s a symbol of hope for addicts and felons fighting against all odds to make it in a world that has already written them off. Loved ones of addicts and inmates will see them with enlightened eyes. Rehab and mental health professionals will gain understanding into clients’ minds. Prison officials will see themselves in a new light. AA members will relate, cry, laugh and cheer one another on.
Adam's story exists so that someone, somewhere can connect with his experience and discover their own path to recovery.
